Abstract

The article reports the findings of a survey conducted to find out the pattern of internet searching, search tools, satisfaction with the search results and need for professional guidance among the undergraduate students of 8 colleges in two major districts of Baramulla and Kupwara in Jammu & Kashmir. The findings show that the rate of internet use for finding information related to their subjects of study is higher among boys than the girls. Search engines, particularly Google, are the commonly used search tools. The knowledge of other search tools like Meta-Search Engines, Directories, and Subject Based Information Gateways is negligible among the students. The knowledge of working of the search engines is lacking and the results retrieved in response to a keyword are confusing. The students also find a dire need of professional skill and guidance for learning various search techniques and strategies in finding current and up-to-date information relevant to their subjects. Thus the present work tries to emphasise the need for knowledge, skill and guidance of the above mentioned search tools and various search strategies especially among the college going undergraduate students to make maximum use of the quality and up-to-date information resources available on the Internet. The study also depicts the role of modern information professionals working in different colleges in educating the students about the role of the Internet and different skills to find the relevant information effectively.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the findings of research papers of various authors to derive the main issues, problems and challenges faced by the healthcare employees with respect to the practice and implementation of effective performance appraisal system (PAS) that impacts employee satisfaction, trust, commitment and retention in a work environment. Findings were categorized using a framework analysis. This approach gives rise to a hierarchical thematic framework, which is then used to classify findings according to key themes and emergent categories. Four major themes emerged from the analysis of the research studies. All the problems and challenges are categorized in the following themes in a conceptual manner: contextual problems, problems related to performance appraisal (PA) structure, problems related to PA process, problems related to PA results. Based on our understanding of the papers reviewed by us, suggestions are drawn which give a holistic view on the issues and problems faced by the employees w.r.t. the PAS and various practices that organizations should adopt so that their employees perceive this system as unbiased, challenge free and satisfying. Keeping in mind the end goal to accomplish quality patient care and most extreme employee satisfaction, the current PAS being led in the healthcare organizations should be changed and amended to a great extent

Abstract

The experiences over the last few decades both in India and abroad in the field of entrepreneurship growth have clearly shown that self-employment, income ventures with a fair degree of success are possible through planned efforts. This requires specialized competencies on the part of promotional change agents, which can be developed through training intervention. Awareness about competencies may help all those involved in promoting income generation and self-employment through planning and organizing such efforts more effectively. This not only will help them in motivating the potential entrepreneurs to take up entrepreneurial ventures but also help in the sustenance of newly formed enterprises. The need for proper training in this regard has become quite crucial on account of the fast-changing economic environment. It is also essential to promote entrepreneurship, develop small business, offer innovative training packages for different target groups, including entrepreneurs, trainers, promoters, development functionaries, and to maintain their effectiveness. The training programs of the institutes are so designed as to meet the specific training requirements of each target group. The present study focuses on the practices of entrepreneurship development in Jammu and Kashmir. To facilitate the determination of existing practices of entrepreneurship development, data were collected with the help of an interview schedule. The required information was also collected by personal visits to various training institutions and organizations.
